Busy Day

Emma, James and I went to a baby shower today for Emma. The shower was supposed have happened back in August, but it had to be rescheduled when I was put on bed rest that morning. Emma did great, she was fussy all day at home, but did a lot of smiling and “talking” at the shower. She got a lot of great books, a HUGE stuffed bear and a handpainted rocking chair. She also got a Christmas stocking made by “Auntie” EJ…it didn’t turn out quite as she had hoped, but EJ thought it was a good lesson in not giving up when things don’t turn out how you expect! It was good to see everyone from my office. I can’t believe I’ve been off work so long. It sure is going to be hard to go back in 2 weeks. I’ve posted pictures, they are kind of dark. I forgot my camera and had to take pictures with my phone which has no flash.

There are also some new pictures of Emma’s room. We finally finished hanging everything on the walls. She also is now enjoying the mobile above her crib. It will keep her happy for a few minutes at a time – I just wish there was a way to keep it turning and playing music for longer!

The picture says it all:

Hopefully Emma got the memo that we get an extra hour of sleep tonight.  I  have my doubts though.  She did sleep for 8 full hours last night.  James asked if we could get her immunized every day since it allowed us to sleep!

2 months old!

We’re back from Emma’s 2 month check up at the pediatrician’s office.  She is 12 pounds 3 ounces, a 5 pound gain from birth.  She’s in the 95th percentile for weight (up from 25th percentile at her 2 week visit!)  She is now 23 1/2 inches long – 90th percentile (up from 19 1/2 at birth).  She got 5 shots and an oral vaccine (Rotavirus) today.  She sure screamed when they poked her and for a few minutes afterwards.  Everyone in the whole office (and possibly everyone in my office which is right next door) now knows that her lungs are in good working order! Once we got to the car, she fell sound asleep and she’s all smiles now that we’re home.

Happy Halloween!

As you can see in her 1 month pictures, Emma is not too fond of her Halloween costume. I decided not to torture her with wearing it again and opted for Halloween-themed clothes today instead.  She looks much happier!  She is demonstrating a fondness for Tootsie Rolls at this young age, boy did she have a grip on that thing!

Bumbo

Yes, we know the Bumbo chair has been recalled but look how happy she is sitting in it! We promise to not leave her unattended in it (she may look unattended in the pictures, but who do you think was behind the camera?!) She can sit in it for quite a while before she gets tired of holding her head up (it is hard work).

Emma got to spend some time with Aunt Angie and Aunt Betsy on Sunday while her dad and uncles went for a bike ride. She does like to play in the Rainforest bouncy seat and as you can tell from the pictures, the Aunts like it too!

She loves to shop!

Emma visited the outlet mall for the first time this past weekend.  She got a lot of new clothes for winter (and some for next spring, too!)  She found some good deals, but this kid better get a job soon if she’s going to continue spending this kind of money!  On Saturday night she also attended her first cocktail party in honor of Aunt Angie’s 25th birthday.  I think she was upset that the party wasn’t for her so we had to make an early exit.

10 pounds!

Well, we had Emma at the pediatrician on Monday because of some worsening reflux symptoms.  She started on medicine and seems to be doing a little better.  After getting her first dose, she slept for almost 6 hours Monday night (I think she was exhausted from not sleeping the night before while she coughed and gagged).   Despite the reflux, she is gaining weight – she was 10 pounds 10 ounces at 5 weeks and 2 days old!  We go back on November 2nd for her 2 month visit and shots.

One month already!

Emma had her pictures taken at JC Penney’s on Friday. You can see them in the gallery. She pretty much slept through the entire thing, until we put the Halloween costume on her – that royally ticked her off (and I’m sure that when she is older, she’ll hate us for making her wear it!) but the pictures are cute nonetheless.
